It’s almost winter in North America, a time that many ski and snowboard enthusiasts look forward to during the three other seasons of the year. Some people may believe that these sports can’t be participated in all year round, due to the lack of one pretty important element – snow. Luckily, our world is vast, and your trips down the mountain don’t need to end in March.

Ski and Snowboard: November through April

Colorado

This one may seem like a no brainer. Regions like Aspen, Vail, and Breckenridge draw crowds from all walks of life during the winter months to ski the fresh powder. Because of the popularity of the named destinations above, it can be hard to get a reservation during the busy season, but with 54 peaks within nearly 15 miles, you won’t have to worry about running into anyone on the slopes.

Whistler, Canada

Located in the southwest area of British Columbia, Whistler’s season extends past Colorado’s February deadline. Whistler’s two mountains are open until May, and the nearby resorts have relaxing offerings for any guests who may not be too keen on participating in winter sports.

Oregon

Just south of Whistler is another late-season favorite – Oregon. With 10 distinct ski areas, the state offers a diverse winter sport experience, including the chance to ski or snowboard down stratovolcano Mount Hood!

May through October

Argentina

While most of the States are basking in the summer heat, skiers and snowboarders hit the terrain at Cerro Chapelco and Cerro Catedral in Argentina. As the biggest ski center in the Southern Hemisphere, Cerro Catedral near San Carlos de Bariloche will offer a truly unique ski or snowboard getaway.

Chile

Much like Argentina, Chile may be a place you may have never thought of as a great ski and snowboard destination. The Valle Nevado Ski Resort is located right at the foot of the Andes Mountains, and offers some spectacular views. Operating from mid-June through September, the resort allows plenty of time to beat the heat and hit the slopes. For the best dry power, plan your trip in July or August.
