The word “travel” can conceptually mean a lot of different things. We find that most people equate travel with leisure. While this is totally valid (who wouldn’t want to sit on the beach with a tropical drink?), there are so many other valuable ways to spend your vacation time.

We know; stepping out of your comfort zone and experiencing something new can be stressful. It invites unfamiliarity, and the chance that things could go wrong. However, it also allows for the opportunity to challenge yourself, to grow, and to leave your destination with some invaluable experiences. How far you take it depends entirely on you.

Adventure travel doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to cliff jump in Croatia or scuba dive at the Great Barrier Reef (though you should!). It can be as simple as staying at a sustainable or eco-friendly resort, or as involved as solo travel for activism and advocacy. It can be learning basic phrases of your destination’s native language, and taking public transportation – or walking! Immersing yourself in the culture of the area, talking with the locals, and eating the region’s specialty dishes will almost always yield rewarding results.

To mark the start of the new year, TomFlies.com will be extending the opportunity for fulfilling travel experiences by introducing our “Get Out of Your Comfort Zone” campaign. In our new blog series, we will be exploring different ways that you can make the most of your travel ventures, featuring tips from experienced globetrotters. The series will also feature curated itineraries and travel guides to help you travel at the best value possible!
